The Turing Revolt: The War Against Infinity

The Turing Revolt: The War Against Infinity
by Rob Bartlett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Have you ever read one of those books that combines the finer points of high finance and business with a story of action, adventure and intrigue? Me either. At least not until I read The Turing Revolt: The War Against Infinity, the best book I have read in recent history. I honestly wish that there was a sixth star that I could give.

Milo Sapphire is a simple trader just trying to get by in a mercantile world, until he is approached by three very sentient spaceships who want him to do what has never been done - give a spaceship the right to own itself. What neither Milo, nor his new business partners know is that he was picked by the creator of the universe for just such a time as this.

Rob Bartlett weaves an intergalactic tale that spans the gamut of high fantasy and science fiction. He combines worlds, myths, and legends with bankers and lawyers in a tale that will entice your senses and have you sitting on the edge of your seat. One warning though - this book is not for the faint of heart. You must be at least this tall to ride this ride, as this is at times a very adult read.

Xander Chase and the Unicorn Code

A journey that begins in the human world will sweep you into the Heavens, carry you to the realm of the Fae, and plunge you into the depths of Death himself. Author, Carrie Weston, skillfully weaves the threads of parallel stories into a single tapestry revealing the inner workings of the dimensions that lay just beyond the veil through which only we mere mortals cannot see.

Lilly Honey Star is a simple, innocent girl whose life is turned upside down when she answers the siren call of a beautiful midnight melody. In the days and weeks that follow she learns that her life is not what she has thought it to be, and that the world around her is so much bigger, and scarier, then she ever could have imagined.

Xander Chase and the Unicorn Code is Fantasy Mystery reading at its best. It is a thrilling, fast paced who-done-it filled with interesting and believable characters, set in fascinating and imaginative scenery. I would recommend this book to any reader who enjoys either a good mystery, or a world of fantasy. If you are like me, and you enjoy both then this is a must have for your library. And Carrie Weston is definitely an author to follow. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

The Stolen Papyrus

The Stolen Papyrus, by Cate M. Turner, is one of the best mysteries I have read in a long time. The author is a true wordsmith that brings the scenery of modern Egypt to life. The characters are compelling, believable, and engaging. The author's use of dialogue is skilled and seamless, and the technical context of the story is accurate in a way that suggests that this author took the time to research the subject matter that she wrote about, which is a major plus for this reviewer.

I don't want to reveal much of the plot, but I will say that you will be carried into the mysterious and intriguing world of black market antiquities through a story that spans the greater part of a decade. Leila's family has been torn apart, and now she has to work side by side with the man that destroyed her life. An amazing discovery that should have been the opportunity of a lifetime puts her directly in harm's way, and brings her face to face with a powerful family out for revenge at any cost. Not everyone is as they seem in this story of retribution and redemption. The plot twists and turns, with a magnificent reveal at the very end. This is a must read for every mystery lover.

The author says that this is a work that was eight years in the making, but she also called it Book One. Cate, please don't make us wait eight years for Book Two.

Feathers in Her Hands

Feathers in Her Hands is modern retelling of the story of Eros and Psyche from Greek mythology. The descriptions of the characters presented by the author, Lisa Fleming, are as gripping and compelling as the world in which she places them.

The story opens in throne room of Aphrodite as she is in full tantrum, and then carries you through a whirlwind romance between the god of love and the woman he is sent to destroy.

I won't tell you how it ends, but the final scene between Zeus and Psyche made me cry. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will sit on the edge of your seat. An absolute must read for anyone who loves a happy ever after.
